Oleg Dou
One of the brightest representatives of contemporary Russian photography on the world art scene. He became famous for his large-format portraits on which people faces are similar to frozen masks, devoid of emotions. In portraits, the artist partially addresses a theme of his own fear of the staged photo, that has been tormenting him in the childhood. Dou's art is so personal that creating works for him is related to a therapeutic act.
The tendency of total appeal to the inner world can be traced in the fine plastics - porcelain sculpture. The artist reveals themes of unjustified cruelty, inner struggle and choice. In addition to photography and sculpture, Oleg Dou turns to video art, in which he includes a new characteristic for his style - emotions and motive of the struggle, first of all - with himself. But here beauty, restraint and conciseness are also artist’s main tools, he shares and interprets the ideas of academism in his own way.
In 2007, Oleg Dou was named "Photographer of the Year in a Special Category" at the prestigious International Photography Awards. In 2009 he won Arte Laguna Art Prize as "Best Young Photographer". In 2011 Artprice company included Oleg Dou in the Top 3 of the most successfully sold artists up to 30 years at auction.
