Ustina Yakovleva
Ustina Yakovleva, Artist (b. 1987, Moscow). Lives and works in Moscow and Berlin. Graduated from Moscow State University of Education (Moscow, 2009) and ICA Moscow (2009). Short-listed by STRABAG in the category for emerging artists (Vienna, 2014). Participated in Residency.ch in Bern (2018) and Artist Residency at Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (2019). Ustina’s solo projects were hosted by Dreiviertel art space (Bern) and Centrepoint Artwall (Basel), Anna Nova Gallery (Saint Petersburg), Artwin Gallery, Triumph Gallery (Moscow). She participated in group shows, including the 5th Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art (Ekaterinburg, 2019), “Circus, Circus, Circus!” (Moscow, 2018), Manifesta-10 (Saint Petersburg, 2014). Ustina’s artistic practice is based on creating an idiosyncratic world of morphologies, one in which jellyfish and sea creatures coexist with abstract landscapes. The important aspects of Ustina’s work are femininity, elaborate handicraft and meditative contemplation.
