Handle with care
Since Nietzsche and Freud, "the Subject" is no longer a stable entity as it was for Kant or Hegel, but a multiplicity of masks. Our postmodern subjectivity has become fragmented. This contemporary reflection on identity becomes the main theme of Joan Priego's work.
His sculptures are carved out of pieces of wood; they are intended as a kind of metaphor for today's fragmented and multiple individual identities. Like the contemporary concept of Subject, they are made from the ruins of the project of Modernity. He also uses recycled wood from demolished old buildings for his works.
