Andrey Syaylev was born in 1982. Graduated from the Samara Art School. Works as a sculptor, painter, photo and video artist, as well as a street artist. Serves as a curator. Lives in Moscow.
Participant of the 1st Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art (2017), 5th and 6th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Festival MANIFESTA-10 (2014), numerous video art festivals in Russia and Europe. Personal exhibitions in Marat Guelman Gallery, Samara Regional Art Museum, Vladimir Smirnov and Konstantin Sorokin Foundation.
About the artistic practice:
The creativity of Andrey Syaylev is an attempt to materialize the flow of time, to see and explore the architectonics of his "spatial slices". Diving deep into the details the artist in the experimental series prepares various textures, materials, and spaces. The most frequent persons involved in his works are patterned constructions, for example, bricks, tiles, or books. For the artist, they play the role of ideal forms.
"Compressed" time. Brickwork or multivolume are models of visual grids that structure the human experience of perceiving reality. The artist calls attention to this corporeality of existence "depth of field" vision, considering it its task to convey to the viewer the skills of its "tuning".
