
Uldus Bakhtiozina (b.1986 in Leningrad) has graduated from London Central Saint Martins College of Art (photography) and started her career in London as a reporter and photographer. Currently lives and works in St. Petersburg. In her photographs and video work, Uldus explores the subjects of self-identification, studies social roles, and their transformation in relation to the archetypes of the past and stereotypes of the present. Her visual language is characterized by fantasy and escapism, a “documentation of dreams”, as the artist herself would call it. While reflecting on Russian history and major events such as the Revolution, Uldus is being greatly inspired by Russian folklore and fairy tales. Uldus is a member of the Royal Society of Arts (London), the first Russian speaker in the history of TED and a finalist of 11th Arte Laguna Art Prize. Vogue Italia has called Uldus The Best Young Fashion Photographer and in 2014 she was named one of the strongest women of 2014 according to BBC.
