Igor Skaletsky is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Moscow, Tel Aviv, Berlin and London.
Born in Voronezh in 1978, at the age of 13 he emigrated to Israel with his parents. In 2006, Skaletsky took part in his first group project - the exhibition of young art Power, held at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Even then, the goal of his work was designated by the curators as “associative search based on emotional experience.” A few more years later - in 2008 - Skaletsky received a bachelor's degree in Moscow from the Moscow State Academy of Arts. Surikov, in the workshop of Tatyana Nazarenko.
In 2009, Skaletsky’s first small personal exhibition took place in the Moscow MEL space. In subsequent years, his works were presented at group and personal exhibitions in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Tel Aviv, Paris, Stockholm, as well as at art fairs around the world, including Art Basel and Art Paris.
Skaletsky creates paintings in which the grotesque is combined with expressionistic coloring and surreal layout of plans. For many years, the artist’s favorite technique was digital collage with elements of painting, which immersed the viewer in the phantasmagoric world of images from the world mass media and classical Western European culture. The artist’s method is the combination or contrast of seemingly incompatible visuals, borrowed from high and low cultures, which together give rise to new paradoxical, defiant, flashy images.
