About the Artist

Vita Buivid was born in Dnepropetrovsk. She has been working in photography since the late 1980s. In 1994 she won a grant of the Russian culture bureau CIRC in Amsterdam and was working on a project about the influence of Dutch painting on Russian culture. Thanks to the grant from Rutgers University, she was able to go to New York where she pursued fashion photography. On her return to Russia, she for some time collaborated with glamour magazines. In 2000 she was invited to work in Paris on the project “Paris. Red.” Vita is considered to be a consistent feminist in Russian art, but she herself, like many of her female colleagues, disavows this label that has become all too categorical in Russia. Vita’s most notable project of recent years is the series “How I Spent My Summer” nominated for Kandinsky Prize in 2009.
