About the Artist

Aristarkh Chernyshev (1968, Lugansk), one of the pioneers of media art in Russia, began his artistic career in 1991, immediately after graduating from the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical University with a degree in mechanical engineer, designer of satellite systems.

From 1991 to 1994 he was a member of the art community at 12 Petrovsky Boulevard, during this period he made a number of exhibitions and organized the first public art project "Art belongs to the people" on the city billboards of the newly emerging advertising industry.

From 1994 to 2004 he created a number of multimedia and interactive installations together with Vladislav Efimov, the most striking of which were included in the collection of the NCCA Moscow (Genetic gymnastics) and in the collection of MMOMA (Bubbles, Commutation).

In 2005, together with Alexei Shulgin (a pioneer of net art), he organized the Electroboutique gallery-workshop at Art Strelka. Within the framework of Electroboutique, vivid works of media art were created, which were exhibited at the London Science Museum, the Center for Contemporary Art in Trongheim, the Telemuseum Oslo, Aros Aarhus Kunstmuseum, at numerous festivals including Transmediale, Archstoyanie. He is a participant of the 4th Moscow Biennale curated by Peter Weibel, Asian Art Biennale Meditation 2011, 5th Seoul International Media Art Biennale, winner of the 2009 Kandinsky Prize. Works created from 2005 to 2018 entered various museum and private collections, including MAMM, Museum of Moscow, private collection of the Stella Foundation, private collection of the Ekaterina Foundation, private collection of Doronin (Capital Group).

Since 2011, she has been teaching media art at the school named after Rodchenko

In 2014, together with Alexei Shulgin, he organized the Electromuseum.

Creates media sculptures, interactive objects, mixed media objects that combine 3D printing and other technologies, videos and conceptual projects in the field of Sci-Fi and speculative art. The subject of his work is information in a broad sense, in his projects he comprehends and deconstructs information flows, creates the concepts of gadgets and new services related to the development of social networks, genetic engineering and other technologies. Lives and works in Moscow.
