He was a French modernist artist, a master of conveying emotions through color and form. He worked with painting, sculpture, ceramics, and engraving.
In his youth, he received a law degree and even worked as a clerk in a law firm, but his "solid" career was interrupted by an acute appendicitis attack. To pass the time in the hospital, he began drawing with watercolors. The creative activity so captivated him that despite his father's disapproval, Matisse decided to devote his life to art. He went to Paris and began studying both old painting techniques and the latest trends in modernism. Henri Matisse is one of the founders of Fauvism, finding his worldview in the expressiveness and "wildness" of color combinations.
