The art group "Russia" is a family of artists Lyudmila Blok, Ivan and Egor Dmitriev, as well as the artist Dmitry Lukanin, united by the pictorial direction of "symbolic realism" and a common workshop in the Rossiya apartment complex on Sretensky Boulevard in the sacred center of Moscow, next to the workspace of Ilya Kabakov.
The name of the art collective was proposed by Pavel Pepperstein, which incorporated not just the name of an apartment complex but also a general nod to Russia in the wake of the recently disbanded USSR.
The group's artists follow an approach known as "Symbolic Realism," which incorporates reexamined elements of realistic painting's figurative language.
