On the eve of New Year and Christmas, many anticipate something incredible, magical. We know that the most important miracle, however ordinary, is good deeds and supporting those who truly need it.
As part of our booth at the inaugural OBerton by Cosmoscow graphics fair, we will present a collaboration with "New Urban Artists" — a charitable self-organized group from St. Petersburg that has been engaging artists with challenging backgrounds in contemporary art for over 8 years. The initiative aims to support and professionally develop artists with disabilities. Over the years, more than 100 original artists, who previously had no opportunity to present themselves to a wider audience, have passed through the "New Urban" studio.
The curators of the association — Stas Bags and Evgenia Shtil — find most artists in boarding schools, social rehabilitation centers, and psychiatric hospitals. Many participants subsequently began collaborating with professional galleries and were exhibited in spaces such as the State Hermitage Museum, the Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art, the Museum of Nonconformist Art, and Namegallery in St. Petersburg, as well as in the Peredelkino House of Creativity, the Ruarts Foundation, and Cube Moscow in Moscow. In 2021, "New Urban Artists" were shortlisted for the Kuryokhin Prize in contemporary art and launched their own publishing project, AMINAZINE.
At our booth, you will be able to see graphics by "New Urban Artists": vibrant lettering by artist ZOIKA, Lyuba Obraztsova's pointillism, Yura Snegir's "NO SIGNAL" calibration charts, Vitalik Chistyakov's mesmerizing pastels, as well as works by Ilya Minin, Tanya Vlasova, and Kostya Laptev.
