About the Artist

In moments of danger or loss of stability, how often do we wish to hide away in safe space? The series of ceramic objects «Golometamorphoses» by Elena Tormysheva illustrates the human experience under conditions of maximum uncertainty and stress. The transformation of the human psyche in difficult moments resembles the process of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. The cocoons represent a way to cope with the situation, allowing one to slow down, choose the right course of action, and find a path forward. Each person's cocoon is unique: some prepare to defend themselves, while others retreat into dreams, seeking solace in a mirror world. For some, it's crucial to devise a strategy before they feel ready to emerge from hiding.

Born in 1984 in Moscow. Graduated from the "Contemporary Ceramics" course at the British Higher School of Design, currently studying at the Free Workshops of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

Her main medium is ceramics. She creates works through hand sculpting, as this method reveals maximum freedom of form while allowing control over the process.

Elena's main themes are the combination of natural and mechanical effects on objects, exploring the influence of the external environment on individuals, and capturing their emotional state in constantly changing conditions.
