Soil Art Work Series 2
Yan Tikhonenko rethinks nature. His contemplation on the passage of time made him to forge an artistic language where nature and time intertwine as integral elements of his work. Natural pigments and soil challenge notion of traditional painting, making three-dimensional works that are not supressed by canvas but rather intertwine with outside environment due to the nature of the material used.
Born in 1986, Yan received a Masters degree in architecture. He has been making art since 2017. The artist works with two techniques: oil painting and mixed media (represented by works with soil, sand, clay and rust).
Currently Yan works on two series - RUST and REFRACTION/REFLECTION.
The RUST series comprises works made with rusted iron with similarities to the artist’s works with soil devoted to aesthetics of everyday life.
REFRACTION/REFLECTION explores the change of composition of the painting depending on the position of the viewer.
