About the Work
About the Artist

The image made by the artist Nadezhda Bei on the ceiling of the Ekaterininskaya Assembly as part of the performance. The images used by the artist refer to minimalist patterns, which make up the musical work Canto Ostinato performed by Jaroslav Kovalenko and Vladislav Fedorov, as well as to the idea of the evolution of living microorganisms and the development of life from the simplest forms.

Each pattern is created by an artist in a virtual space using VR helmets and controllers. They’re all like living organisms with their dynamics and their structure, and together they form a visual symbiosis in a projection to the ceiling of the room, where each new element fits into the overall picture.

Nadezhda Bey is a young media artist who uses VR as her main medium. Born in Tyumen, then at the age of 18, she moved to St. Petersburg, where she received her higher education in design and CG at ITMO University, and then a master's degree in science&tech art at the same university.

Since 2019, she has been actively involved in developing VR technologies and the popularization of virtual reality art, she is one of the most famous figures in Russia in this direction. In 2022-2023, she became a prominent representative of the digital art scene in Russia, received the ASTA award and the S. Kuryokhin Art Prize. Nadezhda currently works as an artist at the Interactive VR Lab and as a tutor at the Art&Science program at ITMO University.
