About the Work
About the Artist

Hollis retains the traditional thematic framework and addresses the issue of the body, its boundaries and belonging. In a special type of natural print, the artist sees not so much a search for the manifestation of the materiality of the work in the practices of the past generations, as a multifaceted experience of empathy for the strikingly long absence of power over one's own body in animals and women.

An artist from Novosibirsk, known for the extravagance of her mediums and themes. She received her art education at the Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia named after. A. Rodchenko and St. Martins College of Art (London).

The basis of Lana Rae Hollis's artistic practice is an interest in the relationship between the author and the materiality of his works. In searching for the boundaries of materiality, the artist finds universal strength and impulse to create. He believes that attention to the process of creating a work allows both the author and the viewer to tune in to the subtle effect of art.

Works with painting and printed graphics, uses film language. Acting (namely, action taken to the extreme) serves as a process for releasing artistic truth. Here, the artist’s reference points are Diogenes Sinopsky and German Vinogradov. Lana Rae Hollis also turns to active work with the body when creating action painting: then the work consists not only of materials and images, but also of the experience of the author’s body and consciousness. When printing, he experiments with the materiality of silk and stamp, taking impressions from his own and other bodies.
