Round Zoumey Table
A forest of table legs made out of 16 solid pieces of iroko wood and a tabel top made out of african walnut, burned and waxed. A dining table for 6 persons. Iroko wood coming from benin and locally called “the king of the forest” is a very spiritual wood for the fon culture in benin. They call a forest of iroko trees “zoumey”.
Belgian designer and art dealer Arno Declercq is passionate about preserving tribal art forms. A special place in his work is given to the art of voodoo - most of his objects are made from the exotic Iroko tree species. In African culture, this tree is sacred, and its wood is used to make various ritual objects. Reinterpreting architectural grandeur, Arno brings back the feeling of a 100-year-old house with its large vases and monumental candlesticks, making forgotten forms relevant again.
