Nikita Alexeev (1953-2021, Moscow) was one of the brightest representatives of the “Moscow conceptualism” art movement and one of the pioneers in the interrelationship of text and image. He received training at the Moscow Institute of Graphic Arts. In the 1970’s and 1980’s Nikita Alexeev was one of the key protagonists of underground Moscow art. He was among the founders and participants of the first actions of the legendary Collective Actions group (1975-1980) and directed the celebrated APTART gallery (housed in his own flat), while also collecting first materials for the Moscow Archive of New Art and participating in many historic exhibitions of the time. In 1987-1993 he lived in France. Public collections include Centre Pompidou in Paris, MoMA in New York (as a part of "Collective actions" group), Zimmerli Art Museum in New Jersey, State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and many others.
