About the Artist

Ivan Simonov is a young Russian artist, a prominent representative of Moscow street art, whose works can be found both in the city space and in contemporary art galleries.

The artist works with the space around him, analyzing the information field in which there are problems that arise for people. Using photography, he focuses the viewer's attention on specific characters and objects with which the viewer can associate himself, thereby becoming involved in the context of the work. Deliberately fragile and simple materials help the artist create the effect of accessibility and hand-made art, and the use of text allows the main idea to be briefly and clearly presented. Thus, the works become a kind of beacon or signal designed to draw attention to a particular phenomenon.

In 2015, the street project #littlepeople was created, where the artist explores man and his social manifestations in society. Through photographs of people he meets in public spaces and changing contexts, he draws the viewer's attention to the fragility of human life and its originality.

During its existence, the project has become a full-fledged part of Moscow street art.

By creating works on the street, the artist addresses the random passerby, calling for dialogue and reflection.

In his works in the #littlepeople series, Ivan uses photographs of people and objects caught in his lens. By printing and carving characters for his works, the artist creates a world where he reflects the manifestations of human life. Playing with scale, he strives to draw the audience's attention to small details that are lost in the urban space. At the same time, large works are designed to draw attention to the entire project as a whole and make it more noticeable to viewers.

Experimenting with street practices, the artist is looking for new ways of creating works and new meanings. This is how the series of works “SOLD” appeared, where the author criticizes capitalism, its harmful impact on human relationships and wasteful attitude towards the space around us.
