The Last Supper, view under the table
Petr Kirusha was born in Dushanbe (Tajikistan), but moved to Riga (Latvia) at the age of two. Lives and works in Moscow and Riga. He graduated from the Higher Academic School of Graphic Design (Boris Trofimov's workshop) and the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems.
Petr Kirusha works with graphics and painting. As Nicolas Audureau writes “his technique is both traditional and unusual: after all, watercolor oil pastels on paper or canvas generally do not mix well with acrylic paints. However, this chemical and academic incompatibility creates the contrasting effect between bright continuous planes and organic lines, and the visual effect of these works vibrates long in our consciousness”.
In every drawing by Petr Kirusha, a powerful inner life exists inside a frozen frame, memories from someone's life. He composes works from found images (photos of friends), pictures from memory and imagination. The artist paints scenes that seem familiar, but in the end utopian in content. They make the viewer want to project their own experience on them.
