Sculptural vase Connection
The series of works introduces the viewer to the inner side of the work process.
The sculptural composition Connection consists of two identical vases and tells about the thought process of creating a work. The idea is nurtured in the author’s head, then turns into a sketch and only then is it embodied in matter. Through the duality of the composition, the author wanted to show the connection between himself and the work. The entire time the sculpture is being created, the artist is inextricably linked with it and experiences all the stages of its creation.
To create the works, the author chooses the plait technique of modeling. Folding plait after plait, Tati talks about the long and painstaking work. Fingerprints on the clay refer to the seamy side of the process, usually hidden from view, but here deliberately brought out.
Tati Solodovnikova is a ceramic artist from Izhevsk, Russia. She graduated from Udmurt State University with a degree in Cultural Studies. Tati lived in the south of Russia for a long time. Tati came to ceramics through immersion in the history of the region and exploring aspects of her own personality.
Ancient vessels served as inspiration for her work. Relying on historical, biographical and natural sources, the artist strives to create her own story. Each vessel is a new portrait, an attempt to embody an impression and inner world in form. The artist's skill lies in working with volume, finding balance in the asymmetry of vases. The texture of the works often retains fingerprints as the presence of the author and, at the same time, creates a heterogeneous surface and movement.
Many of Tati's works have expressive modern painting with cobalt or other materials.
Tati Solodovnikova's objects, combining tradition and the sensual world of the artist, seem modern and have their own character.
