About the Artist

Vladimir Viderman (born 1945, Sevastopol) is a graphic artist and painter. He graduated from art school in Feodosia, and then from the pedagogical faculty of Odessa Art School (1964). After moving to Leningrad, he graduated from the Leningrad Higher Design School in 1971 (Department of Industrial Graphics). He taught at the Vyborg Palace of Pioneers and at preparatory courses at the Higher Design School school. In 1970 he was accepted into the youth section of the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists. As an artist, Viderman has come a long way from realistic drawing to an increasingly generalized and conventional interpretation of forms. Geometricity and stylization have become characteristic features of his lithographs since the 1970s. Vladimir Viderman participated in the first exhibitions of Leningrad unofficial art in the Gaza and Nevsky Cultural Centers (1974–1975). Since 1988, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. The artist’s works are in the State Russian Museum, the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, and other museums and private collections. He currently lives and works in St. Petersburg.
