Maxim Ima (b. 1987, Leningrad) is an artist, curator. He lives and works in Saint Petersburg. Since 2003, Ima has been an active participant of the graffiti scene. Unlike many writers who worked out their recognizable style in typefaces, Ima immediately showed an interest in conceptual art: he drew meat grinders, faces of his fictional characters and painted train cars with abstract shapes. For almost twenty years of work, Maxim Ima has gone from classical bombing on trains and conceptual statements in urban environment to successful studio work and curating exhibitions. In his projects, both personal and curatorial, Ima often refers to different techniques and skills gained during many years of doing graffiti.
His art represents the synthesis of abstractionism, surrealism and figurative painting.
