Marrakesh. From "Tropical Geography" series
“Tropical Geography” project is dedicated to present state of defragmented and misarticulated “worldview” used to be taken as clear and static. Jonjoli Flowers create multidimensional collage which combines images referring to different cultural contexts, places and times in non-linear ways by using textile, found objects, wood, metal, photo, video, 3d-modeling and diverse hand techniques. The collective’s art works join as shards into absurdist fragmented archeological layer consisting of material artifacts referring to different cultures, media cliches, epochs and periods in the spirit of Brazilian tropicalia whose ideas the artists try to reactualize.
Jonjoli Flowers is an art group/project/local art community, emerged in 2022 in St.Petersburg. The group works somewhere on the line between utilitarian art and non-functional design. The project uses textile (clothing, uniform) as a conceptual form of imagined “self-well-cut” hideout in conditions of dramatic time break. This project is searching for suitable forms of inhabiting living space after collapse of language and appropriate symbolic “worldview” as a whole.
