About the Artist

NATALIA ZHERNOVSKAYA

Moscow, 1972

A famous photographer and artist, born in 1972 in Moscow. Since childhood, she studied in art studios, in 1991 she met Timur Novikov, a bright figure in the St. Petersburg art community, and entered the New Academy of Fine Arts (St. Petersburg) that he founded, which turned out to be a fateful

decisionHaving joined the neo-academic crowd, Zhernovskaya began a friendship with Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe and Georgy Guryanov, who influenced her work, but the artist calls Timur Novikov her "teacher". In 1997, the "New Serious" movement was formed in the New Academy environment., which included Georgy Guryanov, Denis Egelsky, Yegor Ostrov, Konstantin Goncharov, Natalia Zhernovskaya herself and others. The New Serious opposed themselves to the “joking” postmodernism, which was especially popular in those years in contemporary art, and turned to the study of classical painting and masterpieces of old masters. Under the influence of the New Academy of Fine Arts' aesthetics Zhernovskaya turns to idealized classical nature: her characters are ballet dancers, sailors, courtiers, and she turns to the architecture of classicism and the Soviet Empire style.Natalia Zhernovskaya has participated in many exhibitions both in Russia and abroad. Today she continues to work actively and is in constant creative search. Works are in MAMM, private collections in Russia and abroad.
