Coffee table from the collection "Eros"
Angelo Mangiarotti is a renowned designer, sculptor and architect, one of the key figures in 20th century Italian design.
Manjarotti showed his talent and skill in various fields: he was engaged in the design of lamps, tableware, table clocks and vases, and also participated in the design of buildings for railway stations in Milan and the Church of the Mother of Mercy.
The designer's art has been recognized with awards at international exhibitions, and Angelo Manjarotti was awarded the Compasso d'Oro Prize for his creative contributions to the field of design. His designs are part of the collection of the Manhattan Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).
It was Angelo Manjarotti who began working on new forms and began designing stone furniture. The sculptor used an unusual technique: furniture was held on supports only by its own weight, all objects - tables, consoles, tabletops - were made without a single screw or bolt. The designer used tapered legs and carefully cut out the grooves in which the slabs would fit.
In 1971, after another visit to Carrara, the sculptor released his famous collection of consoles and tables, Eros. The designer used a wide variety of Italian marbles. Massive legs emphasized the natural patterns of the stone, the name of the collection was justified by the rounded shapes of the tabletops, as if hugging their supports.
