About the Artist

The sculpture continues the series of works made of felt, started in the framework of the Idauæg project for the Alanika festival in the North Caucasus, in which Diana Schliemann refers to Ossetian culture and uses the word meaning sacred amulet with an emphasis on energy and physical protection, which was traditionally given by the oldest woman of the village .

The sculptural part of the installation was created by the artist and local women by hand from felt, a traditional material. The silhouette of the sculpture was chosen based on the study of Ossetian iconography and the image of the World Tree.

When the visitor takes refuge in a felt dome, either as in the core of a tree, or as in the womb, the warmth and softness of the material, the lulling sounds of women's voices convey a feeling of maternal unconditional love and a desire to save. “Idauæg” is a wish for security to the whole world, which needs love, warmth and care more than ever.
