About the artist
Creativity and exhibitions

Contemporary Lithuanian artist. Born in 1990 in Vilnius, Lithuania. He studied sculpture at the Vilnius Art Academy (2009–2013), and later graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (2012–2013).

The artistic practices of Augustas Serapinas relate to relational aesthetics; he creates installations (often total and site-specific), and organizes performances. The key object of his criticism is the work of art institutions, not only their administrative infrastructure and functions, but also their architectural structure. The artist explores hidden, unconventional spaces, both inside large public buildings and in the open air. Currently lives in Vilnius, works in Vilnius and other cities.

Augustas Serapinas has solo exhibitions in cities around the world, having already taken place in Bremen, Warsaw, London, Glasgow, Basel, Riga, Kunsthalle Vienna, SALTS in Birsfelden and CCA Tel Aviv. Serapinas was awarded the "Best Artistic Debut of the Year" award by the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture in 2014. In 2015, his work was exhibited in the Central Pavilion of VDNH as part of the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. In 2018, he took part in RIBOCA1 - the 1st Riga Biennale and the 13th Baltic Triennial in Vilnius. In 2019, he hosted the Fogo Island Arts (FIA) Resident Artist Competition in Canada. His work is already represented in renowned public collections such as the Pinakothek of Modernity in Munich, M HKA, Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, Tate and Center Pompidou.
