About the artist

1970, Leningrad

Russian artist, painter, pioneer of video art in Russia.

In 1989 she graduated from the Leningrad Architectural and Industrial College, Department of Architecture, then she studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. In 1991 she founded the Laboratory for the Study of Ornament at the Leningrad Society "A-Ya". In 1992 she entered the Berlin Institute ART + COM, Department of Computer Graphics and Animation. In 1994 Olga joined the circle of artists of the New Academy, founded by Timur Novikov.

Since 1995, Olga has become an active participant in both domestic and international exhibition projects. The artist's work has received numerous awards. In 1995, she received the first Videovision prize at the "Third Reality" festival in St. Petersburg, in 1998 - the second prize "The best European computer graphics" at the Hamburg GRIFFELKUNST festival and in 2016 was elected an honorary academician of the Russian Academy of Arts.

In her works, Olga synthesizes images of classical art with elements of pop culture. Using cutting-edge technologies, the artist brings the samples of antiquity into a completely new context. The works presented on the site belong to the new abstract series. Tobreluts creates her own fantasy worlds on a computer with its own specific light and textures, and then transfers them to canvas using the classical technique of oil painting.

Works are in the collections of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Ludwig Museum, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the New York MOMA and galleries in Milan, Brussels, Verona, etc.
