The series “Khakass Demonology” originates from the artist’s memories and feelings about the collective traditional ideas of the Khakass and South Siberian peoples. According to these ideas, the world is divided into three parts, the most dangerous of which is the lower or underground, where the sun is dim and the reservoirs are filled with tears. Using computer graphics, the author conveys a personal view of some stories and connects them with everyday situations. Magical descriptions, once born from the fear of the unknown, continue to live and change along with those who learn about them.

In his hometown of Abakan, Alexey Ankheyev took part in informal collective art projects. From graffiti he subsequently moved to computer graphics, painting and installation.
In Anheev’s practice, images of national culture, Khakass ideas about the world, local myths and legends, which are deformed and reinterpreted by the artist, remain important.
