Graduated from the faculty of scenography of the Moscow Art Theatre School (2000). In 2011 she completed a master's degree in painting at the Royal College of Art in London (London).
Yelena Popova's paintings refer to Russian constructivism, minimalism and the works of modern abstract artists. Much attention in her paintings the artist pays to the surface of the picture and colorful material-she carefully selects the material for the canvas and produces paints from organic pigments, thus achieving a special materiality and transparency. The artist is also active with video, ceramics and textiles.
In 2011, she became the first and only Russian-born artist to take part in the Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition. Elena Popova's exhibitions are held in the UK, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Austria, USA, Switzerland. The artist's works are in the collections of Charles Saatchi, Anita Zabludovich, the English art Council, the municipal collection of Nottingham, the collection of new Hall and many others.
