Soviet and Russian artist, sculptor, one of the brightest representatives of social art (however, Orlov himself ironically characterizes himself with the phrase "imperial artist").
Born in 1941 in Khimki, Moscow region. Graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Art and Industry (B. Stroganov, Department of Monumental and Decorative Sculpture, 1966). One of the organizers of evenings and one-day exhibitions at the Sculptors' Club in the House of Artists on Kuznetsky Most (1976-1986). One of the organizers of the First Creative Association of Moscow Artists (1987).
Finalist of the Kandinsky Prize in the nomination "Project of the Year" (2008, the project "The Army of the Earth and the Army of Heaven", 1970-2008). In September 2018, the work "Imperial Totem" by Boris Orlov became the top lot of the VLADEY The Moscow Times curatorial auction. It went under the hammer for €84.000.
Works in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Art Institute, Chicago, the Martin Gropius Bau Museum of Modern Art, Berlin, the Zimmerli Museum Rutgers University, New Brunswick, etc. Lives and works in Moscow.
