#Blue by Simon Rees, Art Director, Cosmoscow Fair

Writing about Okwui Enwezor's "documents 11" in Parkett magazine in 2002 the great Canadian artist Jeff Wall expressed that "[I] wish that more often curator's would actually tell us about what they like".

My selection, which borrow's it's title and content from one of the panels in Pavel Otdelnov's "Follow Me" series is "♯ Blue". It is a selection of ten predominantly blue coloured artworks (all except Otdelnov's grey text painting, that is) that I happen to like. Naturally enough, as the sky is blue, Indian ink is blue, the surface of a body of water is blue, workers' including painters' smocks are blue, many police and military uniforms are blue, and its a predominant colour in national flags (including Russia's) it turns-up lots in art. Of course colours have shades and hues, as does an individual's colour-perception, and can mean different things to different people and be called by different names (lapis lazuli, aquamarine, cornflower). Nevertheless, here's ten art works about ♯blue: I think they look good.
