SUBSTATION is an interdisciplinary creative platform founded by curator Sabina Chagina in 2023. Twenty years of experience and expertise in the field of contemporary art, music and communication have defined the key areas of work, but haven't limited it — the platform asserts an approach without genre and stylistic boundaries, a focus on art as a process, and communication as the basis of any creativity.
The name was born as a synthesis of the Latin term substantia, meaning "underlying", and the name Sabina, abbreviated Saba. It refers to the personal philosophy and experience at the heart of the platform: difficulties and external constraints always help to manifest the true essence, which remains unchanged, any difficulties only strengthen the movement forward, sometimes this movement is without direction, but the process itself is important. An important component of the platform will also be the concept of perspective — it is always a look through, a spatial system. The experience of working with space teaches us to explore the context, the power of place and the purpose of creative action: it will help to develop flexible creative solutions and integrate them into different formats, models and business tasks.
One of the formats is collecting and selling works of art, where the main focus is on the democracy and accessibility of art. First of all, this is the edition art of famous authors, as well as the art of young artists. Our gallery presents unique works by contemporary artists who create our "today". Prints printed by silk screen printing and linocuts, sculptures and other art objects published in limited editions, as well as a collection of zines (self–published) and books about art - all this is an opportunity to join collecting and start collecting art by buying it at affordable prices.
In the past, the creators of SUBSTANCE participated in the Cosmoscow fair under the ARTMOSSPHERE brand, which continues to exist only as Urban art biennale. Over the 10 years of its work, ARTMOSSPHERE has discovered many new names and assisted in the formation of many talented artists, working with them from project to project, actively developing the Russian street art scene.
