Armchairs set Oscar
The “Oscar” armchair was created by Sergio Rodrigues in 1956 in honor of the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. This piece has become a symbol of modernism in Brazilian furniture design.
Sergio Rodrigues (1927 – 2014) is a major name in national furniture design, known in Brazil and abroad. Graduated from the Brazilian National Faculty of Architecture in Rio de Janeiro in 1952, Sergio invested from the very beginning in creating furniture that would accompany the innovations of Brazilian architecture that gained worldwide fame in the 1950s. Sergio believed that furniture should reflect the culture of its origin and provide comfort appropriate to the climate and relaxed lifestyle, at a time when strictly functional furniture and international design were valued. During his sixty-year career, he created approximately 1,200 models for the government offices, diplomatic missions, hotels, theaters, companies and homes. The diversity of his work is based on the ability to understand the needs of each architectural space and design based on the resources available in each case, creating furniture with grace and soul.
