Castes Twins Tables, 2/2
The Castes project was created in collaboration with Fresh.glass x Lavdanskyworkshop, local craft studios. This capsule collection is a reflection in sculptural forms about the phenomenon of mystical light, subtle and quiet beauty, about the fusion of traditions and visual language of contemporary art.
The concept is based on an interest in orthodox church aesthetics and historical heritage. The research process began with a reinterpretation of an eighth-century image of an icon crowned with precious stones set in castes. Castes, which are metal mounts for jewelry, served as the prototype for future objects. The brass sheet, like a caste, fixes and embraces the glass, taking its shape and manifesting its appearance.
The strictness and purity of shapes, balancing at the intersection of functional design and abstract art, combine the archaic and the modern in a timeless dialogue. The smooth surface of the black glass with its tar-like texture, in combination with silver-plated brass, creates an image of a monolithic jewelry body.
The collection includes a number of items, such as small and large tables in various modifications, decorative mirrors that immerse the observer in mystical contemplation, a sculptural bench, and a console. The capsule collection is still under development and will be replenished with new items.
LAVDANSKYSTUDIO — design studio inspired by temple aesthetiс. This project was created in the Basmart family artel which specializes in church arts and crafts.
FRESH.GLASS — multidisciplinary brand founded in 2016. Inspired by the glass nature, its tactile, emotional and visual features, the team creates objects that can be perceived not only visually, but also by touch sensations and subjective experience.
