Club party (after Adriaen Van Ostade)
Andrey Semenov, an artist with a special reputation. He is known and respected by almost all significant St. Petersburg artists and figures of the art scene, but it seems as if he is not too well known to the general public. Being a kind of genius of place for St. Petersburg (Semyonov's last solo exhibition was dedicated exclusively to St. Petersburg), he is rather in opposition and even underground in relation to official, public art.
He himself is close to the alter ego of a medieval reclusive artist, a Dutch master who prefers to paint everyday scenes from the lives of ordinary people. Views of streets with drunks, feasts and fights in taverns, to rework in a characteristic ironic-psychedelic, but very accurate manner works of the old masters - Adrian Brauer, Lucas Cranach, Rembrandt and even Shishkin or Savrasov. But between “program” works, he as well as it is supposed to small Dutchman warms up on still lifes - he writes the same production for many years, but they come out completely different, like gardens at Monet."
