Yuri Berngardovich Kafengauz (1929 – 2008) was a Soviet and Russian muralist, author of works of monumental and decorative art for public buildings in cities of Russia and Turkmenistan (metal, mosaic, relief with mosaic), created a number of easel paintings, engaged in graphics, experimented with various techniques (epoxy resins, hot enamels).
Yuri Kafengauz graduated from the Moscow State Pedagogical University (Stroganov), Department of Monumental and Decorative Arts (workshop of V.F. Bordichenko), in 1955. In parallel, he studied for three years (1948-1951) at the correspondence art history department of the Philological Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. From 1954 to 2008, Yuri Kafengauz was a regular participant in Moscow, republican and All—Union exhibitions. Since 1956, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (Moscow Union of Artists, Ministry of Agriculture). In his work, Yuri Kafenhaus continues the traditions of the Russian avant–garde and refers to the legacy of European art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
He is especially known for monumental works for public spaces between 1965 and 1975.
