José Manuel Ballester (Madrid, 1960), painter and photographer, graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1984 with a degree in Fine Arts.

In 1999, he was awarded the National Prize for Prints

2008 Goya Prize for Painting and then the National Prize for Photography of the Community of Madrid

2010 National Prize for Photography

2023 Enaire Foundation Award for Excellence

Ballester began his artistic career in painting, focusing on the techniques of the Italian and Flemish schools of the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. In 1990, he began combining painting and photography.

His work is in the collections of the Queen Sofia Art Center Foundation (MNCARS), the Marugame Museum of Contemporary Spanish Art in Japan, IVAM in Valencia, the Pérez Art Museum and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in Miami, the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the 21st Century Museum in Kentucky, Würth Museum in Logroño, Telefónica Foundation, Banco Espírito Santo in Lisbon, National Art Gallery of São Paulo, Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Iberdrola Collection, Cristina Masaveu Peterson Collection, Enaire Foundation, Engel Foundation, Pérez Art Museum, Coca Cola Foundation, Prado Museum and many other institutions around the world.
