GEORGE PUSENKOFF (1953) is a Russian artist who has gained fame in Russia and the West.
He has implemented more than 100 exhibition projects in leading museums and galleries in Russia and Europe. Pusenkoff has participated in major curatorial exhibitions and biennials around the world. His works are in both famous museum collections and well-known private collections.
Articles and essays have been written about the work of George Pusenkoff, published in respected art publications in Russia and the West. Articles about him are included in encyclopedias on contemporary art, published by major Western publishers (in particular, the encyclopedia "Art of the 20th Century", published by Taschen). More than 20 catalogs and books have been published in connection with the artist's personal exhibitions. George Pusenkoff is a participant of the World Exhibition EXPO 2005 in Japan, his work was demonstrated in the Russian pavilion, presenting the possibilities of Russian nanotechnology. In the same year, as part of the project "Mona Lisa Travels", Pusenkoff's painting "Single Mona Lisa" was delivered by Russian cosmonaut Captain Sergei Krikalev to the International Space Station, where it spent 10 days. Following this unique journey, the multimedia project "Mona Lisa Goes Space" was shown at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005.
Personal exhibitions of George Pusenkoff were twice held at the State Tretyakov Gallery ("Wall", 1992 and "Mona Lisa Travels", 2004). Also, twice personal exhibitions of Pusenkoff were held at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg (1995 and "Simply Virtual", 1998). In 2007, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art hosted a large-scale exhibition by George Pusenkoff, “Who Is Afraid,” and in 2013, the blockbuster exhibition “afterReality.”
