About the Artist

Charlotte Perrian (1903 — 1999).

French designer, one of the world's first female architects, collaborator of Le Corbusier and Jean Prouvet, author of the iconic curved metal tube furniture, which has become the epitome of modern style. From 1927 to 1937 she worked in the architectural studio of Le Corbusier, in the late 1930s, together with Jean Prouvet, she designed prefabs, popularizing the ideas of typical modular construction. In 1940, she was invited to Japan as a consultant on industrial design, and in the early 1960s she lived in Rio de Janeiro. She opened the world of traditional crafts of Japan, Vietnam and Latin America to Western modernism, combining ancient techniques with the principles of modern shaping.

Passionate about the idea of art synthesis, she collaborated with avant-garde artists: Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Fernand Leger, Isamu Noguchi. The most ambitious project in her work is the Les Arcs ski resort in the French Alps, which she has been working on since 1968: she owns the architectural solution, interior design and furniture design.
