Bitter moon
Victoria Kosheleva casts characters that appear, disappear and reappear throughout her works. In one of her latest series, the Jungian1trickster was one of the recurring figures, leading the viewer from one painting to the next, as if we were reading her works like a book, or even dream-hoping. I woke up upon exiting the exhibition, as if I had gone through my favourite style of sleeping, where one dream encloses another. The type of dreams that stay with you all day, because they are even brighter and more intense than reality.
Victoria Kosheleva was born in Moscow. Lives and works in Paris.
In her artistic practice, Victoria combines contemporary and classical imagery. In one of her interviews, she described her work as "cyber expressionism." The subconscious plays an important role in Victoria's art practice. In her paintings she strives to create surrealistic worlds consisting of memories and fantasies, images and landscapes that are often taken out of their usual context. She often uses images of phone screens or movie screens and mirrors, all of which act as portals to the theater of the unconscious.
