About the Artist

Daniil Antropov was born in Vladivostok in 1991.

He graduated from the Art Faculty of the Far Eastern State Institute of Arts and the MMOMA Free Workshops School of Contemporary Art in Moscow. In 2012, Daniel went to Japan to study ceramic techniques with various craftsmen. In 2022-2023, he participated in the Artist-in-Residence program at ENSA Limoges (Limoges, France), and in 2024 he became a resident at Taoxichuan International Studio (Jingdezhen, China).

The artist combines ceramics and industrial materials, uses glass, construction mesh, rods, foam rubber found on construction sites in the city, and soft toys. Processing familiar materials in the process of creating a sculpture, Antropov extracts their alternative properties, turns to unconventional methods of creating a form and finds new ways to interact with the medium. The multi-layered texture of ceramic objects is achieved during the firing process at different temperatures, while the artist only directs the process in the right direction and does not fully control it.

Antropov works not as an artist who creates a form, but as a researcher who watches with interest the transformation of the material, its constant disintegration. Mesmerizing with their unusual texture and color combinations, the objects express the dialectical relationship of order and chaos. It is an open system, an affect, a hymn to beauty beyond aesthetics and dichotomy.
