Unless of course you are already deadon the inside
Alexandra Gart is a St. Petersburg–based artist and co-founder of the experimental exhibition space STYD. She works with graphics, painting, sculpture, and installation. In her artistic practice, Gart explores liminality in its broadest sense — from graphic and painterly depictions of vaguely unsettling empty spaces to immersing the viewer directly into states of uncertainty, instability, and multiplicity of interpretation through total installations. Her method is grounded in an ascetic use of artistic means — achieving maximum visual impact with a minimum of visible effort.
She is a laureate of the TOP 50. Most Famous People of St. Petersburg award in the Art category (2025). Artist of the Year according to the Cosmoscow Foundation (2024). As part of the curatorial team of STYD, she became a laureate of the TOP 50. Most Famous People of St. Petersburg award in the Art category (2021). She was nominated for the Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award in the category Best Work of Visual Art for her project The Failure (2021). From 2013 to 2016, she participated in the international public art festival Art Prospect. She illustrated Nikolai Oleynikov’s book Serving Science (2016) and the concert booklets for Dom Radio (2023). Her works are part of the collection of the PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art in Perm.
