Danya Pirogov was born in 1996 in Nizhny Novgorod. He received his architectural education at Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, progressing from bachelor's to postgraduate studies. He has participated in the art residencies "Vyksa" (2022), "Leto na zavode" (Summer at the Factory) in Sysert (2022), "Siyanie" (Radiance) in Apatity (2023), the Open Studios of the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art (2023), and the residency from the Futura Gallery in Nizhny Novgorod (2023).
In his artistic practice, Danya engages with the concept of the "out-of-place artifact," meaning an object that should not exist according to history. Such objects serve as the cause for the emergence of myths and alternative historical concepts. This term is closely linked to the themes of time and timelessness, and to the presence or absence of connections to specific cultures. Working with material (concrete, wood, wire, tracing paper, cardboard) holds significant importance in the artist's practice, with sculpture, installation, graphics, and performative practices being his primary mediums. A distinct role is given to constructing spatial relationships: between objects, between the object and the viewer, and between the object and its spatial context.
Danya's solo exhibitions have been held in Nizhny Novgorod titled "Zadachi vozdukha" (Tasks of Air) in 2020 and in Kaluga titled "Invertitur | Inversiya" (Invertitur | Inversion) in 2023.
