Encounter
In contemporary culture, I am interested in how the regime of sign production manifests through the material environment. How the physical world, information flows, economy, and technology intertwine into intricate patterns—and generate the ground for new myths.
The aesthetic is rooted in two vivid sources. First, the Perm Animal Style—bronze figurines created by Finno-Ugric tribes in the Urals and Western Siberia between the 3rd and 12th centuries CE. Second, Perm wooden church sculpture (17th–19th centuries), where Christian saints appear as pagan idols—a synthesis of Eastern Christian tradition, paganism, and Western European Baroque.
This fusion of cultural codes echoes contemporary reality, where mysticism, science, culture, economy, and technology are tightly interwoven into a single network.
My works are built on the deconstruction of old myths and a reflection on post-history, in order to construct a new “lifeworld” from their remnants. At the same time, I combine contemporary production technologies with traditional craft methods: impersonal algorithms and technical means enter into interaction with living material and manual labor.
