A cast aluminium bench inspired by the form of a traditional spinning bench.
Sem Lavdansky is a Russian designer and artist whose creative path is inextricably linked to work in his family’s craft workshop. In his independent projects, he demonstrates a subtle engagement with enduring images from ecclesiastical culture. Lavdansky is inspired by the archaic aesthetics of temples — their sense of air and light, as well as the restraint of interior decor: massive wooden surfaces with minimalist carving and austere metal ornaments. The artist conveys the temple’s atmosphere of solitude, silence, and purity through objects of contemporary functional design, reflecting on new forms of ancient crafts and the introduction of a sacred context into contemporary art.
Sem Lavdansky’s works are presented in galleries in Russia, Europe (France, Belgium), and the United States.
