Formless Coffee Table
About the Formless Collection
The concept of "formlessness" comes from Eastern Buddhism, expressing the idea that appearance should not be misleading.
Here, form seems to resist being fixed: smooth contours, organic silhouettes, a sense of motion that never settles into a single gesture. The objects resemble fragments of a landscape, gently shaped by the sculptor’s hand.
Fiberglass combined with resin gives the surface a tactile softness and a faint luminous haze — light is not only reflected but also seems to pass through the material. The palette uses just two shades: muted Moss Brown, like damp earth beneath moss, and milky Jade with a subtle hint of stone’s glow.
Each object is hand-molded, so slight irregularities are not mistakes but character. In them, you feel the living presence of the maker.
Chinese designer Steven Yeung founded KAR Studio in 2020. The author works at the intersection of product design, fashion, and interior solutions, blending the Eastern philosophy of wabi-sabi with the aesthetics of contemporary minimalism. Yeung primarily creates furniture from fiberglass with resin, emphasizing the traces of handcraft.
The name KAR is derived from the word 'karma,' placing emphasis on inner meanings. The design of the collections is often inspired by elements of traditional culture. The studio's pieces blur the boundary between everyday life and artistic objects, acting as art artifacts.
The Formless collection addresses a form that refuses to be fixed. Smooth contours and organic silhouettes create a sense of continuous movement. The objects resemble fragments of a landscape, gently shaped by the sculptor’s hand.

The Formless collection's palette consists of just two shades: a muted Moss Brown, like damp earth beneath moss, and a milky Jade with a subtle hint of stone-like radiance.
Among the international projects of KAR Studio are participation in the Cosmoscow fairs in Moscow and Define: Seoul, as well as a personal presentation of the Not by Intention collection at the Licht Gallery in Tokyo in 2024. Stephen Young was also a member of the jury for the international SIT Furniture Design Award.
