About the Artist

Parshikov’s series of Icelandic landscapes develops the motif of suspense that runs throughout his practice. In the absence of human figures, the natural environment itself becomes the carrier of tension. Over the photographic images, the artist overlays galdrastafir—traditional Icelandic magical symbols—which intrude upon the landscape and seem to seal it. These uninhabited terrains appear as sites of hidden presence, where the sense of a potential event is embedded within the very condition of nature.
