About the Work
About the Artist

The Tom series unfolds as a sequence of visual travel notes emerging along the course of the river. Familiar forms, transformed through movement, become ephemeral images in which mythical creatures of the forest, echoes of the River Styx, and reflections on transitions between states begin to appear. The literal photographic image is translated into a subjective interpretation through the medium of gum bichromate printing—a process that preserves an exact correspondence to the original matrix only once. As a result, each print acquires its own unique visual character and becomes a singular work.

Alexey Veselovsky was born in 1969 in Moscow. In 1989, he graduated from the Moscow Art School of Memory of 1905, and in 1999 from the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov. Alexey Veselovsky is the founder of PiranesiLAB, a laboratory and gallery of experimental printmaking. As an artist, he actively works with various media, including photography.
