The artist wove a fabric from threads of varying thicknesses using hand weaving, then wove wires into it as another type of thread. The textile is, in many ways, a reflection on what will remain after us. Wires, as a result of technological advances, have become an everyday attribute. Wires will also be found in the cultural layers of our civilization during archaeological excavations. And if this reality cannot be rejected, then the second option is to embrace it and weave it in.
Ekaterina Ablamskaya (b. 1992) is a textile artist whose practice centers on hand weaving and contemporary fiber art. She graduated from the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry and is a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Working with both traditional textile materials and found objects—including fishing nets, ropes, wires, and industrial remnants—Ablamskaya explores themes of memory, materiality, and transformation. Through the language of contemporary textile art, her work investigates how everyday materials accumulate histories and acquire new meanings through processes of reconfiguration and making.
